Hi,my son got pulled over with 3 friends in his mum's car,he panicked and ran off, the police couldn't catch him so they got one of his friends to phone him to come back or the car would be seized.he came back and failed the breath test with 54. He's never been in any trouble before and very worried about going to court and what the outcome will be, what do you think will happen and do you think he should get a solicitor.thank you

A reading of 54 µg of alcohol per 100ml of breath means he will be penalised in line with the lowest sentencing bracket. That means he will face a ban of between 12 and 16 months together with a fine. I would always recommend at least discussing the option of representation with a solicitor in advance of the hearing. You can contact one of our team to discuss further on 0333 200 9861
