Driving in Europe

You may use a full & valid UK driving licence to drive whilst visiting countries that are members of the European Community/European Economic Area [EC/EEA]. However, while the minimum legal age to drive in the UK is 17, it may be different in other countries so always check the requirements of the country you are visiting.

IDP - International Driving Permits

If you are visiting countries that are not part of the European Community/European Economic Area [EC/EEA] you may need an international driving permit. In order to obtain an international drivers permit you must be resident in the UK, have a full valid UK driving licence and be over 18 years of age.

Emigrating and driving in another country

If you move to another country you will need to check with the relevant driving licence authority in that country of what the requirements are. It may be possible to exchange your full valid UK driving licence for a valid driving licence of the country you moved too. It may even be possible to pass the relevant driving licence tests in order to obtain a a valid driving licence in the country you moved too even if you are currently disqualified from driving in the UK.

In certain countries UK driving licences and/or International Driving Permits are not recognised at all.
THIS MEANS YOU WILL NEED A DRIVING LICENCE ISSUED BY THE RELEVANT COUNTRY IN ORDER TO LEGALLY DRIVE IN THAT COUNTRY
