I lost my licence twice due to drinking (the second time resulted in being designated an HRO). Though eventually getting the full licence back, I've not driven since because I do like a drink.

I'd want to start driving again though and also because I'm much more conscious of the health issues around drink, I want to be in control of my drinking. I did try AA for over a year whilst banned and an HRO, but, though I have nothing but admiration for it and acknowledge it's efficacy for some, it did absolutely for my AUD (a recent, much less perjorative term for alcoholism).

Anyway, to the point; having read quite a bit in the news recently about The Sinclair Method, I've bitten the bullet, scorched the credit card and have, today, received my first batch of Naltrxone tablets.

Anyone else here have experience of following this particular path?

Big Question Dave

Can you 100% say hand on heart you would not get behind the wheel again after a drink.

I waited 5 years after my ban to reapply for my licence because i was not able to say that.

Day three of the naltrexone/Sinclair Method: quarter pills, to halves, to whole over the number of days recommended (2 - 4 in my case). Felt slightly weird physically the first couple of days, but nothing major. In fact, ironically, the effect felt very much the same to suffering a mild hangover. And still does today. You drink as you normally would and I think it (the drink) feels slightly less impactful.

Ahoy there drink-drivers.

Entering week four of The Sinclair Method.

The side effects - headache and fatigue particularly - have been a bit trying, though no more so than a standard hangover. And this week, those side effects have somewhat diminished. More noticeably though, there's been a subtle but definite alteration in my relationship with alcohol. The programme doesn't say 'stop drinking', so I've had my usual ration, but the desire for and effect of the drink feels weird and unsatisfying.

All a bit strange, but I'm going to carry on with it.

Sounds like you’re doing well! Thanks for the update
