I’ve got bipolar, anxiety and depression and got a dvla medical coming up. I’m confused why they need a Irvine sample, what do they test for and is it alcohol too? x

The urine test is either a 9 panel drug check or a simple diabetes test. Some people are urine tested at their medical, others are not. If you aren't using drugs then it's nothing to worry about.

But which drugs do they test for and do they test for alcohol too?

The 9 panel test is for: cannabis, cocaine, PCP, opiates, methamphetamine, methadone, amphetamines, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines. The chances are that if they wanted an alcohol test they would ask for a blood sample in addition to the urine test and use the blood to check for alcohol.

If you take any of the above (legally) then you should declare it at the medical so that the panel at DVLA can consider if you are taking it within recommended dosage and check with your doctor that he / she is happy that it will not impair your ability to drive.
If you are taking any of them illegally, even not on prescription, then you really should not be doing so with the medical problems you have listed and DVLA may well refuse you your licence back for a period of time if the drug is detected.
