if i were to plead guilty to drink driving is it worth while paying £1000+ for representation or is it straight forward to do yourself?

It is entirely a matter for you whether you represent yourself or not. However, as with any other trade or profession, Solicitors, especially those specialising in this area of law, are dealing with cases like yours day in and day out. They know what to look for, what to say and, just as importantly, what not to say. If a Solicitor is able to succesfully defend you and avoid a conviction, or succesfully mitigate on your behalf and acheive a reduced sentence or ban, then you might think it's money well spent. A legal representative is able to say things in court about you on your behalf that just would not have the same impact were you to say it yourself.

We deal with lots of people who try to represent themselves, are unhappy with the outcome and then find it is more expensive to appeal against the decision.
