Convicted Driver Insurance

Is anyone else having this problem? Everywhere i look, i can't get a quote, or else i get quoted ridiculous prices. My cheapest so far has been £19,000, which i'm sure you'll agree is ridiculous. How do other people manage to pay for insurance after they've been convicted?

I'm 19, and got caught last year when i was 18. My 12 month ban isnt over quite yet, but i've been shopping around for insurance, and i am astonished at the figures i'm being presented with. I've tried every way of reducing the figures, but £19,000 is the cheapest.

How much are other people paying for insurance after a drink driving conviction? Could anyone please post what they are paying, and what car they drive? Thanks.

Have you tried Adrian Flux? - I was struggling to get any quotes but they were able to offer. Another company is Martin Kemp Insurance who specialise in banned drivrs. Good luck - let us know how you get on?

Yes, £19,000, nineteen thousand. Maybe it's because of my age? I'm 19, and i only had my license 4 months before i unfortunatly got banned.

Well you shouldn’t have bought the Ferrari should you, what did you expect.

Post your age, length of licence (think you have both of those) car? Ferrari, Aston? breath reading and I will try to get it for about 10,000 will split the difference!

My DD course gave me some companies will send them to you if you need them.

Have you got other points or convictions on your licence as well?

We got the best deal from Markerstudy (www.markerstudy.com) through the brokers 1st Quote (www.1stquote.co.uk). My son was 19 when he lost his licence for 18 months (reduced to 14 with the course) and insurance for a Ford Escort 1.6 cost £790. Not half as bad as we expected. Apart from the DR10 his licence was clean, and it helped a lot that he had just turned 21 when he came to re-insure.

Have you tried adding an older named driver (such as a parent)? It brings the cost down quite a bit.

No, I have a clean license. I've tried added my parents, but i still can't find a reasonable quote at all. I can think of no reason why my insurance would be so high, as all i have is a DR10 conviction.

Several of the companies specialising in quotes for convicted drivers specify that you have to be over 21, so it looks like your age is the main thing working against you at the moment. It's pretty tough that having paid the penalty ordered by the courts you are then punished further once your ban expires.

The people best placed to advise you are the brokers specialising in high risk and convicted drivers; it's definitely worth ringing them up for a chat rather than just getting online quotes. However, I'm sure you've been doing that already.

Sorry I can't offer anything more useful. Please let us know how you get on in the end as I'm sure it will be helpful to others. Good luck.
