If he was driving without a suitably qualified driver supervising him then he can expect to be charged with the following offences:
1) Driving wth Excess Alcohol (carries a minimum of 12 months disqualification and up to 6 months in prision
2) Driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence (carries a minimum 3 points or discretionary disqualification and a fine up to £1000) and
3) Driving without insurance (carries between 6 and 8 penalty points of a discretionary disqualification and a fine of up £1000.

The exact punishment he will recieive will depend on the all the facts surrounding the offence and the mitigation (both offence based and personal) put forward on his behalf in court. His alcohol reading will affect the sentence he gets. check out the sentencing guidelines on this web site for more details about that.

A motoring lawyer can look at the evidence that will be served at court, advise if there are any departures from statutory procedures that might give rise to a defence and advise him regarding appropriate plea. If he pleads guilty then a lawyer can mitigate for him and help achieve the best outcome in the circumstances.
