Hello team

Completely neutral topic :) Has any tried to drive car insured for friend or third party being disqualified? what's the probability of being pulled over by police and what might be the consequences for owner of car and driver?

and please could you recommend some insurance company for drivers with DR10?

Thank you

Depends on Police intelligence, people grassing, and good old "copper's nose" and the like. If the car does not ping the ANPR cameras for the Police as it appears insured, taxed etc. then possibly a low chance of getting caught (unless the copper's nose twitches - they are good at sniffing out wrong uns!).

However, if the person is caught, the car will be impounded and the driver will be arrested for driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance of a licence etc. The consequences are; major further criminal records, possible prison sentence, fines, loss and crushing of 'friends' car, possible further bans etc.

As for insurance for a DR10, just be honest and upfront (you are legally requires to declare for insurance purposes for 5 years after conviction - failure to do so would potentially make you liable for accusation of fraud and having insurance voided - BOTH VERY SERIOUS ISSUES GOING FORWARDS). Use the main comparison companies, maybe also look at brokers too if your circumstances are 'complicated'. No need to use 'specialist' insurers unless you have really serious issues.

Anyone I know personally who has done it in NI has been caught and recieved a prison sentence. We do have a higher police presence but you would need to be positive that you would never be stopped at a checkpoint, which is impossible. Your friend would also have their insurance voided for allowing a disqualified driver to drive "their" car, this would mean that their insurance becomes sky high going forward. While with a claim or conviction insurance companies ask have you had any in the last 5 years, the voided question is have you EVER had a policy voided. This is on the motor insurance database so your friend would not be able to blag that question, many insurance companies won't even quote a voided driver. The only way for your friend to avoid that would be to say you stole "their" car.

That means in court you would be facing the charges of vehicle theft or unauthorized taking of a vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, driving without a licence. You would go from a forgivable criminal record to the kind of criminal record that jobs aren't even interested in looking at.

Insurance varies and as you have only been disqualified you should wait for a while before you bother looking.
I am surprised you are even enquiring about driving a car on a friends insurance while disqualified. How could you possibly think this is a good idea? You must realise the consequences for you, but in case you are not sure about the car owner, he / she would be guilty of permitting no insurance and aiding and abetting a person to drive whilst disqualified…….. if he admitted letting you use the car.
As has already been pointed out, the owner might well have to go down the route of saying that you had no permission to take the car, leaving you open to an additional charge of taking a motor vehicle without the owners consent.

The situation, in reality, could get even worse because if the police do try to stop you, panic could set in and you drive off, adding even more charges.
You are banned from driving, take your punishment and don’t drive.

Do you mean driving your friends car whilst still disqualified (stupid and idiotic thing to do,) or driving a friends car after having a DR10 conviction?

You should only drive someone else's car if

a) They have insured it for any other driver.
b) If your own car insurance policy allows you to drive any other car. You are normally only covered Third Party when doing this on your own policy.)
