Hello. Sadly on Saturday I got pulled over and breathalysed at the road side. I thought i would don’t be over the limit but I clearly did.. after spending the night in custody I now need to go to court. I been typing in google for support and loads of adverts pop up assuring they can win a case because probable can find something that was done wrong 🤷 anyone have had experience with this companies ? One of them I contact wants £9000 fixed price and 91% probability of being being closed on my favour. I bloody know I did a massive mistake, I would love to not loose my licence, but don’t wanna be taken aswell for a ride 🤒
Any help appreciate. I blown 60 at the road side and at the police station that the officers there were actually very nice I blown 77 and couple minutes later 69. The only think I could think of fighting would be to check that the machine was properly calibrated as 8 in two minutes seems a beat odd?? Or I’m totally wrong.
Thanks in advance

Or is there any way to pospone the court case to get a little more time to try get better legal advice?

Good Afternoon,

My name is Martin and I am a solicitor who gives advice on this forum. I am a road traffic specialist, so I am well placed to give you some insight of how it works.

Going down the route of running a trial can be expensive but the first thing you need to be sure of is who will be preparing your case day to day, and who will be running the trial. Some firms will charge you £9000 and have a solicitor deal with your case and a very experienced barrister at trial. Some firms however, will charge the same, have a paralegal deal with the preparation and then a junior barrister run the trial, so that is the starting point. By way of example my firm charges £5500 for an experienced solicitor to run the case and run the trial, and £8000 for a senior partner to be involved and a road traffic law barrister to run the trial (prices are plus vat).

As to the chances of success the 'statistics' only tell you how many cases are won that ran to trial. Some cases however, cannot be run because no defence could be found and these do not make up part of the statistics, so do not think 91% of people who hire a lawyer are successful. The case will either have defences or it will not depending on how good a job the CPS and Police have done. If they made mistakes you may have a defence but in all honestly what you are paying for is a lawyer good enough to spot if they made mistakes and if so, should you be convicted as a result of this. In some ways it is a gamble, but it is also a gamble that many people are successful with so it is certainly worth considering if you need your licence. Be wary of firms that will promise a victory, especially without seeing the evidence.

Your reading is not very high so it would certainly not be to much of a concern examining the evidence. Some firms, including my own, offer a service to review the evidence at the first day at Court and if there is no real prospect of success, dealing with the guilty plea on the same day.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards
Martin.
