Definitely a reality check for him. The worst part for me would be it making the local papers, luckily I managed to swerve that, the court reporter must have been snoozing.

Sometimes the cases just aren't interesting enough. At most you were probably just a number in a statistic. My second DR10 was in the paper. It listed my full name and the street I live on. On my street there was only one house lol and it was mine. I was at least fortunate for it to mention that the crash was caused by a HGV crossing over into my lane causing me to clip the kerb and roll my car (several times) whilst doing about 60mph. Despite that happening I was still obviously at fault for being over the limit. I don't think the RTI would have been avoidable. There wasn't anywhere else I could go. Maybe I could have braked a little sooner however I would have still rolled my car.

There are thousands of drinks driving convictions every year.

It's just not that interesting even at a local news level to cover it, unless the alcohol reading was exceptionally high or some serious damage or injury was caused.

I was tried by a sheriff (more like a judge), rather than a justice of the peace (more like a magistrate), and I actually think this is part of the reason I didn't make the papers. Whatever local democracy reporter was covering the sheriffs that day would have had far more interesting things to sit in on and report on. Whereas JotP and magistrates reporters are used to reporting on menial matters. Our local newspaper has a 'court roundup' on their online version, where at worst I'd have been given one or two sentences in an article about a dozen or more court cases.

Even if it was in the news, I suspect few people would actually read it, and of those who did, the odds any of them would know me personally would be slim.
