Drink driving blues caused by the weather

Morning

I just wanted to create a topic about the impact the weather has on people who are banned drink drivers.

The weather never affected me when I could use my car, but I'm now very 'guided' by the weather. I would even say, I even take more interest in the weather by reviewing the five day forecast.

I am typing this as I watch the grey horrible wet weather through my kitchen window. For the third day on the bounce, I'm stuck in doors because of the wet weather which is affecting my mood at present.

I live about ten minutes walk from a bus stop and the nearest group of shops is roughly the same distance. I never thought, I would be restricted from doing something so simple like going for a newspaper or a sandwich at lunchtime because of the s**t weather.

The Covid situation is making the whole drink driving thing a little bit harder, because there's no flexibility to go and visit friends and socialise which gets you out of the house. When it rains, it seems to make the whole monotonary twice as bad.

My ban is due to expire in December, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the pain and misery of this current situation does not go on too long. At least, if I could drive I wouldn't be too concerned about being 'confined' in doors as much when it rains.

Has anyone else on this forum experienced similar feelings about bad weather?

Yep, weather certainly played a part on me for last 2 years with the ban. I have a co-op, one stop, chemist and bakery a ten minute walk from me which is good but like today I aint going anywhere with this rain so no cheese past and sausage roll for me today. Worst impact on weather has been for my mum as id pick her up from work on weekends but with my ban and then buses been reduced big time in first wave of pandemic it would have taken her 2 hours to get home from work and then a 25 minute walk home on top of that in all weathers so in June she actually retired from work 14 months before she was due to retire...….non of that would have happened if in May I had got my licence back but obviously I didn't with covid.

In terms of weather and socialising that hasn't impacted me as from when Boris did full lock down in March until today where I am we only had 2 weeks in July where we haven't been in some form of lockdown, we were in national lockdown, then Matt Hancock but us in local lockdown and then now we're in tier 2 lockdown and looking like this week we're going into tier 3 lockdown so going out and socialising here has been a no no forever!

It does feel at the moment that I'm being held to ransom by the weather. There have been outbreaks of blue sky and sunshine today, but then minutes later, its raining again! Another day indoors. A driving ban is like a prison sentence in an odd sort of way.

The Tier and lockdown situation is a complete farce. I live under Tier 3, but we have been threatened with a Tier 4 which will mean a similar scenario to the start of the original lockdown in March, with non essential businesses closing (again). I'm expecting Hancock will spring a Tier 5 at this rate!

The only glimmer of light for me, is that I'm now less than 60 days from date of my ban coming to an end. My D1 was sent on the 17th September, but so far no news and the cheque has not been cashed (as far as I'm aware).

I'm flexible to stay off the road for Christmas, but I really do need to be driving by the start of 2021.

I'm going to chase the DVLA up towards the end of the week. Off the top of your head - do you know what the current state of affairs is with delays in the HRO process?

I'm lead to believe the DVLA staff are working no differently, despite the ever changing lockdown situation. Is there any indication of backlogs or extra waiting times now (in comparison to six months ago)?

Regards

DVLA have updated their site since new Wales restrictions on Friday. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-coronavirus-covid-19-update
One good thing not driving is walking and been a lot fitter in the last 2 years, just need some new Nikes now with all walking I've done!

closest shop to me,is also a CO OP.....unfortunately is was their manager that grassed me to the cops.....and returning would probably result in an assault case......

I got my 'supplies' from the local Mini Market run by a Sri Lankan chap. He served me no matter what state I was in whether it was 7am or 7pm and he didn't give a toss whether I was driving or not.

On reflection, I don't think he did me any favours as I was in a bad place and I suspect he short changed me a few times. As I was half comatose, I was oblivious to what cash I had handed over.

Since, I sorted myself out, I've not been to the shop on principle until last week when I went in for a newspaper. The shop has now changed hands so at least I can put my misgivings aside and start shopping there again (not to buy beer or vodka though!).

I'll have it mate - it's just nice to break free of the house if it's s**ty weather, even if its just a short errand.

Good thing with not drinking anymore as well is your shopping bags aren't as heavy to carry home either what with bottles or cans clanking away!
