Convicted Driver Insurance

I am due to get my licence back in early April but, today I called my previous insurers to get a quote as ive seen a car I like that my brother could store until April.

I am 44 years old with 9 years protected no-claims and I had been led to believe that insurance premiums would on average, double.

I could not believe that for an old 2004 Toyota Celica worth £1800, they wanted £1400 premium!! And they are supposed to be a "specialist" for convicted drivers ( Hint- forget Adrian Flux!)

I also got quoted £1900 by Keith Michaels ( again, another "specialist") for a 2002 Ford Puma worth £1500 tops!

The best I could find for the Puma was £541 (but with quite high excess) from GSI insurance.

So, it definitely pays to phone around as premiums vary wildly and the so called "cheaper specialists" are anything but!!

I am going to look into getting another modern classic as classic insurance is cheaper than regular car insurance. I had a Mercedes SL500 (1995) that I insured for £300 , about 4 years ago that would have been about £800 on regular car insurance , so might see about going down the classic route and see if I can get a reasonable quote with something there!
