Crashed car and done a runner, what happens

So someone I know, drink driving and crashed car. Just came off the road and nobody else involved. This was in the early hours today, as of this afternoon the police still haven’t caught up with them but are looking for them and have told people they suspect alcohol was involved. I assume once police do find them it will be too late to prosecute?

They will be able to prosecute for something...perhaps careless or dangerous driving?

Hiya this happened to s friend of mine ,when they caught up with him they breathalysed him,he passed but was subsequently done for leaving the scene of an accident x
