Hi, I am new to the forum given the wrong circumstances and reading everyone’s else’s story and situation and knowing you’re not alone in this has really helped. Even though reading through threads has given some insight I’m still unsure what to expect and how to prepare to the full extent.

My incident happened on the 16th feb, id drank around 6-8 beers and had a stupid argument with my partner which resulted in me getting in my car and driving off, about a mile down the road I crashed into a parked car. Police came I was compliant even though visibly drunk and upset. At the roadside I blew 122 which I know is ridiculously high.

I was then taken to hospital where they took blood. Around 4 week ago I received my results and I can’t remember the exact amount but basically double over the officer said on the phone.
My court date is at the end of may ( that’s if it happens then given the circumstances )
I know I am fully responsible for this regardless off the circumstances, I have no previous criminal or driving convictions.
The officers dealing with my case said they will mention I was honest and remorseful but I’m getting mixed reviews on solicitors and if it will be beneficial and how people found closure on the whole thing.
I think about it everyday and just thank my lucky stars I didn’t hurt anyone else. I’m hoping once sentenced I can move on. Even now the whole experience has made me realise so much and I will never drink drive or knowingly let anyone drink drive again.
Thanks again

Hi buddy you have made a mistake,it happens to the best of us.you need to get your exact reading from the police first.then you need to speak to a solicitor regarding the incident and what to expect at court.

Thanks

thanks for the reply and advice mate

Sounds like your going to be classed as a high risk offender, after you receive your ban etc,you need to reduce your drinking to below 14 units a week, and make regular visit to the doctors, this will help when your ban is up and the dvla medical comes around, but focus on your court appearance first,I won't be as bad as you think, you never crashed your car or injured anyone.

Hi there kendoggs,

It may seem like your entire life is collapsing before your eyes, and it’s probably compounded by the current situation. It really does help to be honest with yourself early on and judging by the fact that you’ve accepted it was entirely down to your judgement and actions means that you’re on the road to addressing whatever issues led you to be in your predicament.

I’m at the other end of the process to yourself having had my license returned a few years ago and am now just waiting for the 5 year mark to be up so I don’t have to be shafted on insurance any longer, so here’s a few pointers that I wish I knew when I was in your position:

- Don’t bother getting a solicitor, even more so with these specialist ones who use it to charge essentially whatever they like, even for a simple guilty plea. I ended up paying through the teeth for something that I could have got for a few hundred pounds or free (with the duty solicitor). It sounds like your case is a straight forward guilty plea and you should be in and out of court fairly quickly - it’s not the best thing to be spending any time longer than necessary in Magistrates Courts!

- Make sure you get character references when you go to court. However insignificant it may seem, the more references you get displaying your good character the better.

- Devise a plan for travel. Depending on whereabouts you live, this may or may not be easy. I lived out in the sticks when I was disqualified so I had to plan a bit more to get to the shops. Buy yourself a bike as well... best thing I ever did!

Don’t hesitate to private message me if you get into any difficulties.

Hey thanks for the reply, it really helps. I’ve started getting character references and I’ve already adapted to life without a car. Writing my car off means I’m not driving now but it’s not been as bad as I initially thought

What does the medical entail? Thanks also for the reply it helped :)

hi buddy if you read some of the threads on here that have been posted about high risk offenders you will get a better understading,bu you will need to drove to the dvla you dont missuse or are dependant on alcolol.

To save you a bit of time and heartache trying to find it, this is the questionnaire that you have to fill in:

It’s not as scary as it sounds and as neebob has said, it is to prove that you don’t misuse alcohol or are dependent on it.
Hi medicine man is that the same medical form I will have to fill in for drug driving dg10 thanks

Hello, I wanted to just say how sorry I am for you and I know the feeling having done an emotional 1 mile drive myself and scraped a parked car before being arrested and then charged. It isn't something we would usually do and if there is one piece of advice it is that you must try to put it behind you. I struggled to do that and it made me very unwell. You will be strong enough to get through it. Sometimes I even see positives from having to learn a really hard lesson. Take care.

Hi what where you charged with if you don't mind me asking.

Hi what where you charged with if you don't mind me asking.
I got 23 months which was taken down to 17 after a course I did with TTC. I also had a hefty fine. I don't know what it will end up as now however as everything is delayed with DVLA not in fully operational mode. Some months go quickly others drag and it wont be easy. Make the days count rather than counting the days.

You were done for drink driving,am sorry I through you got done for drug driving,I've only 7 weeks left of my ban,but it's proberley going to be longer with the virus.
