If they don’t send me anything in writing about the new date being 1st June, do you think I should still attend?

If I don’t, maybe there is more chance of it slipping through the net and going beyond the 6 months.

If you have been told you are required to present yourself at the station on 1st June then unless you are advised anything different between now and then, you must attend. That said, keep in touch with them if you haven’t heard from them by the end of May, either via 101 or if you have the contact details of someone dealing with your case. If the case is dropped they are very unlikely to make you drive 140 miles to be told.

You may phone them at the end of May and be told to expect something in the post. They only have to advise the court they will charge you before the end of the 6 months, when you find out or get specifics about this may be well after that deadline.
