Convicted Driver Insurance

Hi there,

Nearly four years ago, at age 17 I was arrested for drunk driving and recieved a year's ban, a small fine, and attended youth offenders. I didn't have a license at the time and was suffering from depression, which I was later hospitalized for. I have since stopped drinking entirely and am currently taking driving lessons. Please could you advise me on how long the DR10 will stay on my record, and how it will affect my insurance costs. Will I be able to have it removed from my record?

Many thanks :)

Hi there,

The excess alcohol conviction will remain on your driving licence/ record for 11 years but will count for 10 years for the purposes of the Road Traffic Act and for insurance.

The rehabilitation period, under the Rehabilitation Act, is different however. You are able to see this on our website by clicking on the link below:

It is not possible to have the conviction removed until 11 years have lapsed.
