a little advice on my situation

Convicted Driver Insurance

Hi everyone

just a little bit of background information first about my current licence. i was first disqualified on the 18th of march 2008 for drink driving and was ordered to pay £190 fine and 16 month ban, this has now expired according to my licence information. my second conviction was on the 3rd of march 2016 and i had to pay £250 fine and was disqualified for 3 years.

so i completed 2 years three months on the ban and decided to appeal to the court to have the disqualification reduced. so on the 20 april 2018 i had to go to court for my hearing witch i did win,and was pleasantly surprised to win. now i wouldn't say that i have a dependence on alcohol at all ( yes i have misused it ) thats why im in this situation now. during my ban time i did go out two night a week being wednesdays and saturday night up until the time i went to court. on both nights in question i would drink on average 5 pints wednesday and saturday. i have sent off my application to the dvla on the 27th april. now i understand that i will have to for for a medical, but i'm a little worried about what category i'm going to fall into. im leaning more towards a yellow at the moment (would that be classed as a binge drinking hence the yellow) .but since re applying i have cut back the drink allot.

so i had one pint on the 25th april and 3 pints on the 1st of may.... if i keep things like they are at the moment do you think that there's a good chance of getting green on the cdt. to be honest iv looked at what sort of requirements you need for yellow and red and i don't even come close to drinking as much as those amounts. im currently taking milk thistle to help the process alongside my epilepsy medication and all feels good at the moment.

has anyone else found themselves in this type of situation before ? i would be grateful of any advice given and will post an update in due course. however i understand that the court tells the dvla electronically about its decisions, so from the date i went to court and winning my case the dvla have still not updated my record as of today's date. not good enough dvla staff are probably watching porn again.

It is hard to tell the likely outcome from what you have posted and not knowing when your medical will be.
it would have been better if you had adjusted your drinking ahead of the application to the court, so you could be confident in trying for a medical as soon as DVLA notify you of the Doctor to visit, but that can’t be undone now.
I think it is likely that they will enquire with your doctor after your medical, not just about alcohol consumption but also about your Epilepsy to see that this is well controlled and your medication is not affected by your drinking.

thank you for you reply first of all. tbh before i went to court i didn't have my hopes up of winning so i just carried on as i normally would have, but yes they have always contacted my gp for the epilepsy side of things but that's very under control. over 6 years since my last episode so doing well. ill just have to see how things go and wait until i have my appointment date.

all the best.

Sounds like you will be fine then, your only issue might be the delay in getting your doctor to reply to DVLA, should they check. There is another thread on here at the moment where a GP is causing a 5 week delay, hopefully yours will be much more understanding.
Let us know how you get on.
