I've got 2 young kids, I lost mine for 28 months less 25% so it was a long slog, I also had 250 hours of community service as the reading was pretty high and I went into the back of someone. Add to that, the person I went into the back of was our next door neighbour in the office so I even had to relocate our offices to escape the shame and so it was closer to my home.

Spent 250 hours hiding my face while carrying out tasks around my local area but got a bike, got fit, reestablished who my closest friends were and before I knew it I was back on the road.

I decided to look positively on it, I'll never make the same mistake again and neither will any of my friends and family after seeing what I went through, if I'd run into the back of a bike instead of a car then I could be locked up right now and life would be looking pretty differerent.
At least you done it all now mate and you can look back at what you went and have been through so good on you mate , made a mistake and you got a good attitude towards it ,

I wasn't drunk or on drugs , I literally left my house and half a mile later I was randomly pulled over by the police with no reason to be pulled over , when they pulled me over I was in my car and they took I while to come over to me , so I exited my car to see what the problem was , and the police officer said why have you just exited the car so fast are you hiding something in your car , I said no am not hiding nothing am just seeing what the problem is and why you have pulled me over , being nice to them with no attitude, so he said where goin to search your car so , they searched my car and never found nothing witch I never had nothing in my car , when they never found nothing. He said to me. so what have you got on you , I said I have got nothing on me so he searched me and because I was abit nervous he said he was taken me the station for a strip search, went to the police station, done a strip search on me and when I was on the way out he said can you come in this room to see the nurse, with no suspision I had been drinkin or on drugs just seeing how I was ,she said I don't think he's been drinking or on drugs but the only why we would no this is if we take his bloods , so I laughed and said why do u want to take my bloods there's no reason for you to do this am not getting me bloods done , the police officer said am goin to ask you again to get your bloods done or ile have to arrest you , I said. no am not gettin my bloods done for what , then he arrested me for failing to provide there and then on the spot , me not realising it's a serious offence , ended up with a 17 months driving ban , 200 pound fine , 12 months probation, for more or less gettin bullied by the police , so I got done for straight refusal, but it's life , i have learnt my lesson , i should of just got me bloods done because I had nothing to hide , and ended up worser off , haha . I asked in court is there any course I can go on to reduce my ban , the judge said no, because you haven't got any drink or drug problems , ur conviction is for refusal in a police station, he said if there was grounds of being under the influence of drink or drugs, i would be banning you today for 24 to 36 months, so was lucky like gettin the 17 months for refusing as its a serious offence high risk haha 👌👐am so stupid put myself in this situation .

That's ridiculous.

I am not really against the idea of random drug/alcohol tests while driving, but the law in the UK is meant to prevent that as it stands. The fact that the judge/magistrate admitted that there weren't any grounds for suspecting drug or alcohol use is just adding insult to injury! I think I'd be contacting a solicitor to get that overturned if I could, especially if the judge's statement about that made it into the court record.

There weren't even grounds to search the vehicle either.

Thankfully these days there's often decent CCTV or body worn video footage to dispute these things because otherwise it's basically your word against a police officer and guess who the court believes.

I just plea not guilty ask in my case there’s no witness no proof of driving absolutely nothing I went not guilty on the basis that they cannot prove the driver soo I’m taking my chances hoping it may pay off - those duty solicitors are no joke they tried to make me plea guilty - hopefully it gets much better cus time heals all wounds but luckily a drink driving conviction isn’t that deep just a high end motoring offence and after 5 years it’s all good like it wasn’t there

yerh 100 percent mate your right there , I was just blagged to death me , say guilty for the reduction in ye sentence ye get so much off, if ye go not guilty and they find you guilty,, ye gettin full punishment, that's what scared me but at the end of the day , there is no reduction in the length of ye driving ban , witch even tell ye on google, it's just for fines and community orders the reduction falls in so ye , worth the Try mate, and ye I got a duty solicitor and they just go in there and tell them your side of the story not full but some of it, and just not backing ye up, fighting the case to get it dropped/ acquitted so pointless but still OK for no cost , I got a 200 pound fine then when my letter come through the door it was 388 quid in total 200 fine 114 court cost and 74 surcharge what ever tha is, , so always ends up more than they say haha , payed my fine and just goin to me probation 2 times per month to literally see how am doin , but there classing me as low risk and are goin to be righting me off soon so looking good on that side for not missing appointments and good behaviour , where about are you from what area in uk ?

Yeah I know that but the punishment and bang is usually the same jusr depending on ur breath blood or urine test I had a 63mg/100ml of breath not too bad - il based up in Manchester but it’s looking really good in my case but eh gotta have hope don’t wanna have the regret you could’ve if u get where I’m coming from - hopefully I know someone who is a specialist solicitor soo not paying those crazy extortionate prices 😭

Yerh am from liverpool and done loads of work around Manchester and them tactical plod are horrible arnt they haha yerh at least your not a hro and need a medical to get your licence back 👌 so that's good to know unless it's your 2nd offence within 10 years ? . Hope it all goes to plan for you mate if your case isn't worth bringing forward on the cost of trail then they could drop it but if the cps think they got the right go at you then they will bring you to trail up untill sentence witch could be back and fourth to the courts but let it be and see how it goes , when you got court have you been for ye plea yet ?

Thank u and Yh cus I know this person I’ve done it On a fixed fee - all in 5k which isn’t too bad since a lot of posts of people paying 15k but tbh if I was pulled over over the limit and then arrested I’d just plea guilty in that case but they didn’t. - the prosecutor themselves when reading out the summary could see the bs in the case but we hoping when we come to the case management and actually list out the proper reasons the judge would realise that there’s nothing proving that i was the driver at that time and the realistic prospect of conviction is very weak - my wife’s from Canada aswell soo I ain’t got no choice but to fight this tbh

Seen a lot about that hro honestly seems a bit too much like in my opinion the ban and fine is enough I wish they allowed those caught to just get a ban and fine depending on the their levels but not result that one mistake to a criminal record just seems very harsh cus they know what they are doing and it’s very sad for those who honestly just sleep it off they still get ****ed over which is a bit mad to me tbh

Wouldn't surprise me.

From just 4 days ago: https://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/solicitor-check/017045/

2.1 On 18 March 2022, Mr Mahil was arrested after the vehicle he had been driving collided with a parked unattended vehicle. Mr Mahil provided a specimen of blood at the police station. The analysis presented a reading of 281 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, 3.5 times over the legal alcohol limit.

2.2 Mr Mahil was subsequently charged with driving a motor vehicle after having consumed a level of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.

2.3 On 13 September 2022 Mr Mahil pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court of driving while over the legal alcohol limit and received the following sentence:
  • disqualified from driving for 36-months, to be reduced by 36 weeks on completion of a driving course approved by the Secretary of State before 4 November 2024.
  • a fine of £200
  • a community order requiring 200 hours of unpaid work.
  • a surcharge to fund victim services of £95.
  • costs to the crown Prosecution Service of £105.

Mr Mahil failed to report this conviction to the SRA promptly; reporting the matter to the SRA on 29 July 2025, almost 3 years after the conviction itself. When asked to explain the delay, Mr Mahil stated that he had mistakenly believed a drink driving conviction did not require reporting because it did not involve dishonesty or a custodial sentence. He said this was a genuine misunderstanding. He acknowledged that, as an experienced solicitor, he should have been aware of this obligation.

3.5x the legal limit, banned for 3 years, and failed to report it to the solicitors' regulator.

There's no shortage of people in the legal professions who are, for want of a better word, hypocrites.
