135 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath and collision with a bus (needs license for work)

My dad stupidly got behind the wheel drunk and while going to the store hit a bus 2 saturdays ago(135 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath). This is his first conviction. The collision happened at around 11 in the morning, however me and my mother (family) were never contacted during the day. He was in a cell until 4 AM on Sunday. We alerted all our friends and other family members because we didn't know where he was and my mom actually started crying. We had to call 999 and report him as missing and finally we were told that he was in a cell. He told the officers to alert us and gave them my phone number, however no one ever bothered to call and explain what had happened. Also he is a self employed carpenter and needs his license to work and drive from client to client. We rely on his income to pay mortgage and bills since I am a student and we can't survive in London with only my mom's income. He has to go to court on wednesday 28th of August, is there anything he could do to minimize his punishment? Also is there any chance he'll be put in jail?

A reading of 135µg of alcohol in breath is a very high reading and one where the court will consider imposing a penalty of between 29 and 36 months together with either a prison sentence or community order. His background and the impact on the family will be a consideration for the court but not to the extent that it will avoid a ban. His background and mitigation could be crucial in demonstrating to the court that his case is one that should not be dealt with by way of a prison sentence.
