Long clean driving record, no previous drink driving / criminal convictions, co-operation with the police, short distance driven. Found over the limit = 70mg. Loss of license will mean a loss of my job.

Re: Caught Drink Driving - First Offence (Advise Please)

Long clean driving record, no previous drink driving / criminal convictions, co-operation with the police, short distance driven. Found over the limit = 70mg. Loss of license will mean a loss of my job.

If convicted, for a reading of 70mg, sentencing guidelines suggest a driving ban of between 17 to 22 months and a fine. You will no doubt be offered the drink driving rehabilitation course which, once completed, can reduce the period of any driving disqualification by up to 25%.

These are magistrates guidelines and give a good indication of what you can expect. Magistrates can deviate from these guidelines dependeding on any aggravating and/or mitigating factors present.

Your car insurance premiums will also rise once you regain your driving licence.

The subsequent loss of your job upon conviction will be irrelevant to the outcome of the case.
