7 month abstinence and high CDT

Convicted Driver Insurance
Hi everybody. I haven't touched a drop of alcohol for seven months and my CDT is still 3.9! No liver disease. No anything else. Fit as a fiddle.

Just this infuriating mystery.

Does anybody have an idea of where I can go next as the DVLA aren't issuing. And not helping. At all.

Thanks ...

I think you need to visit your GP and ask them to do tests to see what could be wrong with you. Even with an alcoholic, the reading should be lower than that after 7 months abstinence. There is a link below to an article about CDT where it says:

False positives are rare, however there can be several causes of increased CDT levels other than alcohol misuse, including advanced cholestic liver disease, transferrin variants and carbohydrate deficient glycoprotein syndrome [1].

i don't wish to be insulting to you, but are you sure you have been alcohol free? I read a case recently where a recovering alcoholic was caught drink driving and he said that he regularly used cough medicine as 'I find it soothing'. Some medications can contain quite a bit of alcohol, the highest I have found is Beachams All in One, at 19% abv. !!

Hi there Price1367, thanks for responding. No problem, I'm not insulted by your scepticism. My GP wasn't convinced either. I found another that did believe me but she retired last month. But yes, no booze at all since December 31 2016.

I have no symptoms of Cholestic Liver Disease or any other liver disease for that matter. All the other reading are bang on what they should be.

I have phoned NHS 111 and a "clinician" is going to look into finding a "specialist" for me.

I've been trying to sort this out for ages now. The DVLA are this wall of muted unhelpfulness. The NHS seem to shrug and mutter "...eh?".

I've said it before but I will say it again: KAFKAESQUE!!

Hello I know you u haven’t been online for a while, hoping u will respond I have recieved a letter saying that the dvla are writing to my gp does that mean that my cdt is passable? You would think if I have failed it they will write to me saying so. What do you think? Thank you

I don't want to worry you but if you had passed you'd be holding your driving licence right now, whilst at the same time as you mention if you had failed outright they'd have told you.

I'm assuming you've had the medical right?

There are 3 explanations for them writingto your GP.
1. They have randomly selected your case to follow up with your GP.
2. Your CDT result was in the grey area of 2.3-2.9 and they want information to help them make a decision. 3.0 and about would be a fail and they would not have bothered asking your GP any questions.
3. There was something in your answers on the medical questionnaire that they feel warrants further investigation.
