Hi Guy's

I was convicted on 12/12/2012 with a removal date showing as a removal date of 17/12/2023 !!!!!!

3 year ban.

I am confused as to exactly what i have to divulge when looking online for insurance through comparison sites ?

Will they ask in relation of the conviction date ? Or the removal date ?? Or both ???

I can recall (i think) that the last time i searched online they ONLY asked for any convictions withing the last 4 years ??

Can anyone help/advise me here ?

Thanks in advance.

The actual DR10 endorsement will remain on your driving licence for a period of 11 years from the date of conviction. Insurers usually ask about any convictions within the last 5 years.

The DR10 endorsement is declarable to insurers for a period of 5 years from the date of conviction, after 5 years it will become 'spent' under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You can read more about the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act here. Spent convictions do not need to be declared to insurers.

So i could use ALL the Comparison sites after the 17/12/2017 instead of using a specialised insurer as i do currently.

I presume the Endorsement staying on your license is if you repeat offend then ? Not in regards to insurance purposes ??

The offenders act was a very informative read, much appreciated.

You can obtain quotes from anywhere you like whether it be directly from a company who specialises in insuring convicted drivers or any comparison site. All insurers require that the policy start date is no longer than 30 days from the date that you are requesting the quote on, otherwise they will not be able to provide you with a quote.

Correct.

From previous experience (this may not still be valid) I would certainly change my insurer after the 5 years is up because if you stay with the same insurer they will be aware of your conviction, whereas you do not need to inform it to a new insurer.

They do talk to each other though.

I'm just going to use Comparison sites instead of a specialist insurer which i presume will be a LOT cheaper !!!!

Thanks for reply.
