Just a quickie I was a bit miffed that I couldent find any help for drivers that have there licence revoked due to alcohol misuse to get their licence back quicker but drink drivers have courses ect and their chance in court
revoked licence people have to pay to appeal no choices I couldent even find any forums concerning my situation on line to rant on.
Not trying to upset anyone just a statement thanks for this forum

I agree completely. My licence was revoked for six months. Had I not been applying for a mini-bus licence at 70yrs then I would not be in this unfortunate situation. As I have stated in previous threads, I am not alcohol dependent. I slipped into a way of life where I was drinking steady, not heavily, but too much. I had a CDT reading 2.3%.
When I learnt of my driving ban I immediately stopped drinking except for the odd 1-2 glasses of wine when out for a meal. I therefore consider I am not alcohol dependant. I wife can not drive and also has some health concerns so this ban has caused some real hardships for us and many others (the charity I used to drive the mini-bus for) I contacted the DVLA and requested they allow me to continue driving if I could prove I was not abusing alcohol. They could test me as often and whenever they wished to and I also offered to accept the costs.
As you say those who have not been charged, not committed an offence are being metered out punishment by the DVLA without any course of redress.

I'm reapplying for my licence now after having it revoked by my doctor for alcohol dependence but I agree totally with you if I'd been caught drink driving I could've done a course and got a quarter off my ban, which it is in all but name, It is a completely upside down system when you consider I went too my doc for help.

I agree I had a frightening medical problem and as a result I was totally honest with the specialist about how much I drank. During the DVLA enquiry into this medical problem my doctor had to declare the specialists information and I'm left feeling victimised and needing a medical with a CDT test. I've never been stopped for anything other than speeding or mistakenly having no MOT and I've never been breathalysed. Obviously the more you drink the more likely it is you'll drink drive but it's still upsetting.

You will probably see by my previous comments in other threads I am totally in agreement with you. Have you completed your medical, if not then there may still be time for you to do something about it. As mentioned in other threads you have six weeks from the date of the DVLA's letter to arrange the examination so if you leave it to the last minute and abstain from alcohol in the meantime then you may beat the CDT test.
Do your best as unlike DD conviction, the six month ban will drag on to nine as has happened in my case. Banned on 17th April 2016 applied for my licence beginning of August DVLA wrote end of Oct advising I take the medical. Well past date I should have had my license back. I do the medical on Monday 7th Nov when DVLA states it can take three weeks for them to process and then a further six weeks for them to make a decision regarding re-issue of license. So basically nine month ban under the disguise of six months. Totally unjust and in my mind should be illegal.

I haven't seen your comments as I still can't navigate this forum properly! My medical is in 3 weeks but it's checking for alcohol and something else, I'm on it and have either drunk less than 6 measures or none at all for the last 2 weeks (6 days off totally and 6 had some) so now it's none at all until the test. Frustrating to say the least but better than the alternative. All the best for Monday. I assume you know about the AUDIT questionnaire? The dependency questions can sway a borderline result on that I realised last night....

What is the "AUDIT" questionnaire?

The 'AUDIT' is the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. It's the other questionnaire used in the DVLA medical along with the medical history questionnaire. Answers to these questions score anything from 0 to 4. The higher the cumulative score the more likely it is that a person may misuse or abuse alcohol.

thats a good link as it shows at the bottom the stuff about dependency.

Out of interest was this your first application for a mini-bus licence?

I have a PCV licence and it expires in 5 years requiring a medical and I don't have any intention to renew the PCV licence (I'm 42) Am I compelled to take the medical even though I no longer need or want the PCV entitlement on my licence?
If I don't take the medical will I also loose my car licence even though car licence holders don't need a medical that age?

I dont't understand why you need to do a medical when you are no longer applying for a PCV. Even at 70 and requiring only a car licence I all I needed to do was self confess my health, sight and general living habits were about norm.
Because I needed the D1 for the mini-bus I then needed a medical. However, like a fool, I confessed to my worst drinking habits which took me into the borderline area of the CDT blood test.
The DVLA then banned me from driving completely-car and mini-bus, for six months.

Sorry, i missed your question.
Yes this is the first time I have applied for a min-bus licence.
I have finally received my licence dated 17th Nov 2016 eight months after it had been revoked, when it should have been six.
However they have only issued a temporary one year licence. Why. I assume I have passed the medical and the CDT blood test yet the DVLA's letter makes no mention of this. No mention why they will only issue a temporary licence or what my CDT score was.
In a year will I need to do another medical and will I have to pay again?
I assume the possibility to apply for the D1 mini-bus licence is a complete no-goer?
As has been mentioned in other threads once the DVLA get their claws into you they won't let go.
