Hi worried sick

I am dreading this too. Did you get any replies?

I have to wait until after xmas for my court date. Im anxious and off work with the stress of it all. How did you cope with it all? Just looking for some emotional support as my family are finding it difficult to know what to say! Thanks x

Hi :) no i havent had any replies so guess i will just have to wait. I know exactly how you are feeling but believe me the waiting to go to court is by far the worst,it all starts to get better after that. I promise it does get easier. I can advice to dress smart, look remorseful and write a letter to the judge and possibly some character references if you can. When is your court date? I really feel for you having it looming over xmas! If you need to ask any questions feel free, this forum helped me loads when i first got caught x

Thanks worried sick for your advice. Did you hire a solicitor and do you think this helped? It only happened the weekend so I am still off work with my nerves, and have been prescribed valium. Im waiting for confirmation from my employer if this means I will lose my job (as I work with children). I wish my court date was before xmas so that I could at least try and enjoy it, but right now just about everything looks bleak and Im very low. Thankyou for taking the time to reply - Im very greatful.

Hi,no i didn't have a solicitor and i'm glad i didn't fork out all that money for the sake of 5 mins. The magistrate has very strict guidelines to stick to and very rarely go away from that so i dont see the point unless you have some serious aggravating factors against you. Can i ask what your reading was? I know exactly how you're feeling i was also prescribed diazepam as i felt like i was coping but it will get better before you know it honestly x

Im just wondering if it is worth the several hundred quid they have quoted me. My reading was 62, so I have been told to expect a ban of between 17-22 months, which may be reduced by 25% if I am offered the drink rehabilitation course. Gutted as I use my car for work and it will massively impact upon my ability do my job (assuming I can keep it- just waiting for a meeting with my manager and HR). Did you have any references and write a letter of apology to the magistrate? Aplogies if I have already asked you this but Im all over the place! What was your sentence and was this what you were expecting?

My suggestion would be to save the money for a solicitor and put it towards your insurance when you are driving again. I wrote a letter of apology myself and i took 2 letters from family friends. I blew 85 and had an accident so i was expecting a ban of about 2 years+ and quite a big fine, but the ban ended up at 22 months reduced to 15 and a £200 fine. They could of easily given me the full 2 years if not more as i left the scene of an accident so i truly believe the letter did help and maybe the fact i was bawling my eyes out the whole way through. On the day of court you could go to speak to the duty solicitor if you have time just for a bit of moral support x

Hi,
as car insurance after a ban you should go online to get many quotes. You might find that there is very little difference. After i was banned for 12 months(9 after taking drink aware course}i went tpft instead of fully comp. This turned out to be much cheaper.
Passenger.

Thanks very much for your reply!

I just need to find out about SORN for my vehicle, and if I can sell it back to the retailer, as it is only 18 months old and as Im assuming I still have to pay the finance on it (arranged via Ford dealer), this will prove expensive if Im not even using it! Also, did you cancel your car insurance once you were banned?

Thanks again!

Hi,
I dare say you can sell your car back to the retailer, but as you will know you will still have to pay for any short fall.Once you are banned insurance becomes void anyway. So stop insurance once ban is known. As for sorn if you are selling your car sorn will not affect you.Dont forget when selling dont drive yourself, get someone to drive you.At this moment in time i know you fell pretty low and brassed off.Losing your licence is an inconvence but not the end of the world.Im lucky where i live as there is a very good bus service.Late night drinkiig will have to be a taxi. But you will find how quick the ban ends.

Thanks passenger

I was in court last Friday (finally)! and recieved 18 months ban, reduced to 13.5 months with the DD course, which I agreed to do. Fine was quite high £415, and I had to negotiate being able to pay it off in installments as they assumed I would just have that sort of cash on me!

I have decided to keep my insurance policy on as my dad is a named driver (until it ends in March) and I would of only been refunded £50 back anyhow, so i couldnt see the point in cancelling as atleast he can use it until then. I guess I will then sorn it. However, I have protected 5 years no claims on the policy. I dont suppose you would know if I can use theses years again when re-intstating my insurance?

Ps- God it was a horrible experience and one which I never hope to have to experience ever again.
