When it comes to getting insurance, and they ask how long i've held my license for, do I tell them the date i first passed, or the date i get my license back after then ban? I've noticed that insurance quotes are often 70-80% cheaper if i say i've held my license for x-number-of-years, rather than when i got my license back after a disqualification. Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Cheers, neverwillagain. To let everyone know, when i went the the price comparison sites, and i said i've held my license for less than a month, my cheapest quote was £8660. But, when i said i've held my license since November 2009 (when i passed my test) my cheapest quote was around £3600. Still expensive, but i'm sure i can get cheaper quotes if i ring them. I'm 19 and male, by the way, getting quoted for a 2000 Renault Clio 1.2.

cc - Have you been done with drink driving as well?
Because im a 19 year old male getting my license back around october time and the cheapest quote I got was £7k!!

And that was through a so called specialist drink driving insurer...

& funnily enough I have got the same motor as you 1.2 renault clio 02 plate.

regards.

Hi BT Boy. I was done for drink driving last year, and my ban ended almost 2 weeks ago. Going from what other users have been saying on here, i tried Adrian Flux. I got an online quote from them for around 4600, which is odd since apparently they specialize in drink drivers. My cheapest quote was 3660 from Hughes Insurance, through confused.com. Funnily enough, it was 200 pound cheaper through confused.com than it was getting a quote directly from Hughes.

I'm 19 now, but i'll be 20 on 2nd of April, so when i'm on the comparison sites, i enter the 2nd of April as the policy start date. Being a year older seems to lower the price slightly. I see from your profile, you'll be 20 in December, so when your ban comes near to ending in October, enter your birthday as the starting date, as it will make it slightly cheaper.

I don't know about you, but i simply can't afford 3660 for insurance. I still have a lot of shopping around to do. When i do manage to get insurance, i'll make a post about how much it is on here. By the way, i was also getting quotes for 7 and 8 thousand aswell. You just have to be careful what you enter on the comparison sites. Also, sometimes Third Party Fire and Theft can be cheaper than Third Party Only, so give that a try.

Cheers

Incase you are still interested in finding cheap insurance, I recommend getting a classic 998cc mini. I spent £900 on my mini and I'm getting quotes for around £1800-£2400. I'm 20.
