I was stopped in oct 16 before the new 6 points law came into force. I am now going to court in June 17. If found guilty, will I be given 3 points or 6 points or worse? There was no accident involved, just stopped and pulled over
Unfortunately you will face a penalty as dictated by the sentencing guidelines in place at the time of the court appearance. This means that you will face 6 penalty points and a fine based on your income. The court do have a discretion to impose a disqualification for the individual offence if they see fit although that would be extremely rare and there would have to be aggravating circumstances.
