Convicted Driver Insurance

Hello,

Ok so on Friday night I went for a night out with my friend and drank far too much, for some really stupid reason I decided to drive home (I have no idea what was going through my head), I was almost at my house when I crashed into a parked van, thankfully I didn't hurt anyone but the noise woke the neighbours and I fled the scene. Like sprinted away.

When I drink too much I do occasionally find myself suicidal, after this incident I found myself running towards the river, sound like a massive drama queen I know but I've sworn to stay off alcohol now. I couldn't end up doing it anyway, of course.

I kinda got myself together after an hour or so and walked into the town centre to use a call box to hand myself into the police, (my phone had died and in my panicked state I left it in the car). The police picked me up, I explained to them all what happened, and I done a breath test and got 109, I got taken down to the station and done another one which came up as 79 (I'm told this is the one that will be used in court?). After this I spent the night in a cell. Anyway my car's a write off, I've paid for it to just be kept by the garage and scrapped because I know I'll definitely get a ban anyway.

I have a court hearing for the 11th July, I got myself into this situation so just want to deal with it by myself, but I have no idea where to start! I've been driving for 4 years, this is my first criminal offence (I'm 21), does anyone have a rough idea what my sentence will be? Also how do I go about getting a solicitor? I was hoping to travel round south east asia early next year so I don't really have the money to pay out loads of money for a solicitor/lawyer, will this stop me getting into any asian countries? How long will I be in Court for?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm so confused and don't know what to expect in the slightest!

A conviction for a drink driving offence with a reading of 79µg of alcohol per 100ml of breath will mean that you will be liable for a disqualification of between 17 and 22 months together with either a fine or a community order. The roadside reading is not an evidential reading and they will need to rely on the reading produced at the police station.

Leaving the scene of the accident and being involved in an accident will be aggravating factors that the court will take into consideration. Similarly, your personal background and state of mind at the time should also be considered by the court when they make any decision about sentence. The court appearance is usually listed in a block of cases to be heard either in the morning list or afternoon list. In the event of a busy court list could potentially be in court all day although this is unlikely.
