Hi, was stopped at a routine stop check last nite, after completing a drink drive ban in 2010 i proceeded to insure my car and carry on driving but forgot to send off for my re-issued license. The police are saying this invalidates my insurance and have inpounded the car. They are saying that as technically im not covered that im unable to release to the car from inpound until i can provide my license. Any help and suggestions would be very grateful

Unfortunately the police seem to be correct in this case, the best course of action to get your car back would probably be to have a friend or relative with a valid licence insured on the vehicle long enough to retrieve it. It seems very likely that you will now face prosecution for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance, both of which carry penalty points.

If this is something that you would like to discuss in greater detail then please feel free to give my office a call on 0845 002 0736
