High Risk Medical?

My husband lost his licence for 20 months. He went on the course and had 5 months deducted. When he was caught his breath reading was 86. The tutor at the course told him he would not have to have a medical to get his licence back. Yesterday he had the application to apply for his licence back which tells him he has to go for a medical as he is high risk. Does everyone have to have this medical or do you think there has been a mistake because we thought he had to be 87.5 and over to be classed as high risk?

If your husband was disqualified for driving with excess alcohol in breath, then yes the threshold for the high risk offenders should be 2 1/2 times the legal limit, namely 87.5 microgrammes. I'm not aware of any change to that threshold so I would raise this with the DVLA.

Thank you for that. My husband has spoken to the DVLA and on their records its says he was 105 over the limit so he has sent all the details from the Police and the courts which say he was only 86 over!
