Failed Medical DVLA despite liver disease

Hi,

I was hoping to get some advise on what to do next.

My husband was disqualified for failure to provide for 12 months. He was offered the drink driving course to decrease it to 9 months which he has completed.

He has been asked to attend the medical. As he has a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (diagnosed in summer 2008 by specialist at royal free hospital), he has taken all the letters confirming this as well as repeated blood test results to the 'independent gp'.

My husband and I barely drink at all. We will attend about 4 birthday parties a year and rarely have even one beer at home.

He has received a letter today from DVLA that his license is revoked due to persistent misuse and dependency on alcohol. It is plain insane!

Please advise. We need him to drive for work reasons as have struggled over the past 9 months to keep our business running without the car (construction business). The appeal, I suspect, will probably take months and he has a clear proof of pre-existing medical condition and HE DOES NOT DRINK!

Please help.

thank you

If he wants to overturn this decision he has no option but to appeal. We have lots of experience in these cases and sometimes it's possible to persuade the DVLA to reverse their decision without the need to take court action, although medical evidence is likely to be required. Please call us for a chat on 08450020736. Decisive action is required if you want an earlier conclusion to this.

I will call first thing in the morning. And yes, we have medical evidence that he has fatty liver. He has been sent to Royal Free Hospital for tests, he has had ultrasound and repeated tests. The finding, that we have in writing (all of it) has been given to the medical gp...

many thanks, i will be in touch
