only been driving 7 month will he have to re take test

Can you please help i am the mother of an 18yr old son who was caught driving 100yards to park car and was caught drink driving reading was 77 he has only been driving for 7 month's first affence can you tell me what will happen will he have to retake test

If convicted of drink driving the punishments include a mandatory disqualification. The statutory minimum ban is 12 months for a first offence but this increases on a sliding scale depending on the level of alcohol present. The sentencing guildelines are available here:

In your son's case the guidelines say a ban of between 17 and 22 months is approriate (for a first offence). In addition he can expect a fine.

Your son could be offered the drink drive course which, if completed, would reduce the ban by 25%.

The only way that a ban could be avoided is if your son was able to argue special reasons on the grounds of shortness of distance driven. The merit of this would depend on a number of factors specific to the circumstances in which he drove.
