Last year before DR10 is spent

Convicted Driver Insurance

I have been pretty fortunate the last 4 years. I got convicted in march 2013 with a dr10. It ended in june 2014. Since then ive had 3 years no claims and my insurance has always been under £80 a month. (im 34 and been driving since 2000) The dr10 is the only thing ive ever had on my license.

Next renewal I wont have to declare the DR10 but now this year my renewal has more than doubled with aviva to £1700 and I cant get a quote much cheaper than £110 a month.

Im so tempted to just tell the next insurer I have no convictions as my insurance would only be £300 for the year.

Anyone got any good recommendations of companies? Or any advice? Or any info as to why the Insurance has gone up so much?

i thought it would look better with more no claims etc. \

thank you,

Don't do that. If you have your insurance cancelled, you will struggle to get insurance again.

Switch companies, be honest.

What car have you got by the way?

Well until january I had an astra GTC VXR 2.0 3 door petrol (260bhp) and insurance was £78 a month with aviva.

january I bought a peaugeot 306 GT Line 2.0 diesel 5 door family car (150bhp) and there was no change during mid policy change.

I cant believe by changing from a sports car to a family car my insurance has doubled. This is why i was tempted.

Is the only way you can get caught though is to be pulled by the police or involved in an accident?

Also Ive tried lots and lost of quotes and cant get anywhere near what i was paying up until now.

Nope. I'm pretty sure there's a shared database between companies now. If you declared your conviction, then I would imagine they know when it should be spent and it'll show up as a discrepancy. This is one of the things I've been talking about in my own experience.

Something is not right about your quotes. You've switched from a fast car to a much slower car, but the insurance has flown through the roof. Possibilities going through my head:
a. 306's are known as 'bad boy' or 'boy racer' cars? Maybe in the early 00's. Seems odd nowadays.
b. The car has a marker against it.

Have you tried putting another car in? Just something ordinary like a Ford Focus 1.6?

I must admit, I have had the experience of A taking place. I once looked at a Corsa 1.2 with a red top conversion. It had not been declared, so I figured the insurance would be cheap. I was quoted £2000, which was £1400 more than a Golf GTI.

Sorry its a 308 not a 306. Both cars are 2015 models as well.

funny thing is Ive just done a NEW quote with aviva on my peugeot and got the same price as what Im paying now which is half of what my renewal is. So ould i just tell them no to the renewal and take ou the new policy on line? This is also declaring my dr10.

Also my dr10 is up in march 28 2018. Would i take this off then or do i wait until the renwal in june 2018?

Thanks for the replies mate really appreciate it.

Have you tried price comparison sites such as go compare, I was pleasantly surprised with my quotes after the ban. Zenith were the cheapest company that kept coming up for me.

I would go for a comparison site, like splodger said. I've done some quotes lately and 1st Central have come back with some very reasonable offers considering my circumstances.

Might be worth trying 1st Central for a quote. They were able to give me one of the cheapest quotes when my ban was up.

On a '94 1.8 TD Escort estate I was paying around £50 a month. License held for 15 years/33 year old male.

Recently changed to a '01 1.3 Fiesta and it's gone down to £40.
