A designated driver is a person who abstains from alcohol on a night out in order to drive his/her friends home safely. It is intended as a safe alternative to drink driving. In order to encourage these arrangements, some licensees will offer free non-alcoholic drinks to designated drivers.

in 30 years of orthopaedic nursing I have seen the full spectrum of what happens to drunk drivers and their victims to know it makes sense.

It should be a compulsory part of the driving test to watch a video not photographs of horrific accidents where drinking and driving is a factor- not actors made up ....real people in real accidents.
Where the family are willing video of real victims, limbless or badly brain damaged.
