My husband was caught with a breath count of 65 recently. His case is in court on Thurs 24 July and he has plead guilty on the reply form received from the court and has also submitted a character witness letter which a family friend wrote on his behalf. Does he also have to appear in court on the day even though he has plead guilty? We have not instructed a solicitor as we do not think it is worth the additional expense considering that he will have a hefty fine, as well as a driving ban. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (We live in Scotland.) Thank you.

Yes, he does have to appear in person. Looking smart, and ask to do a Drink Drive Rehabilitation Course as this will reduce the length of the ban by up to 25%
