DESPERATE FOR ADVICE.DVLA MEDICAL coming up

Hello there guys, i was caught drink driving and was banned for 18months, aghh without a car i thought well might as well drink, so i was drinking red wine 1bottles and a half a night, was on the down.
Got a wake up call, was tired of being tired of hangovers, not doing much, not socialising and feeling suicidal was creeping up now and then, so i stopped drinking july 12th 2012 and a week later a letter from dvla came through, telling me to arrange for a medical.

i have already sent 90 pounds, whats left is to pay the doc and get exam.

I am worried, as i read somewhere it said, they test for the prev year to see your drinking pattern. My medical is on the 25th of october 2012, i stopped drinking on the 12th of july 2012 not even a single drop, i have been drinking milk thristles like crazy daily and drinking 2ltrs at least water and coffee. i smoke 10menthol cigs a day

i also add that i started the drinking more since 2009, drink of choice being red wine. i weigh 12stones and i am a female and 5ft3.

PLEASE HELP ME, ANYONE WITH INFOR OR WHO CAN SHED SOME LIGHT.

hi there , first thing i would say is dont worry what you are doing is right when i had my medical i stopped drinking 4 weeks before hand and passed so just to be safe stay away from the drink up to your medical and even 2-3 weeks after as they have been known to misplace blood samples and call you back

You should be fine, i was a typical binge drinker and would heavily drinkmon a saturday night, stopped drinking 6 weeks before my medical and passed ok.

i would recommend not mentioning your drinking history, the doc i saw kept asking me as if she was trying to catch me out... I told her i hadnt drank for months and dont intend to start drinking again....i think the questioning part is as important as the medical

Thanks a lot, if i say im relaxed about it ILD b lying but, i hope it all goes well, what Kind of questions r there going To ask and do they write To my doc as well? My previous year drinking was a lot, just hope il b fine its been hard road

If i remember they ask when your last drink was, how much you drink now, how much youve drank in the past , if you dont drink why not

they then take blook and feel formyour livers position, apparantly your liver should sit under your rib cage and if its heavy ( caused by drink) it will be lower.

to be safe just say you dont drink and havent done since xmas time, when she asks why just say due to money or work, also say you werent a big drinker in past. Stopping booze 6 weeks before medical should return your levels to normal so you should be fine....also dont drink until your licence come through 2-3 weeks later incase they lose your blood samples and you have to redo them

Hello there. I got my license back in july after a three year ban and a medical....i was terrified after reading posts on this website....but honestly it is not half as bad as i thought it would be.....im not a heavy drinker. And before the test i didnt touch alcohol for four weeks before my medical.......untill england played italy and it went to pens....by the end of the game id had five pints and two jd n cokes...(i no can be seen as stupid but i passed) that left me five days to get my body ready...i drank nothing but water. No tea no.coffee. Ate nothing but salads and chicken.....no junk no fatty foods nothing. And my test came back no trace of damage....and more importantly....no trace of alcohol in my blood......i thought of milk thistle but didnt bother. I just ran ate healthy and more or less passed with flying colours.....that was after five days of having a fare amount of alcohol......considering the test i was taking was for alcohol.....so any worries u have about them backtracking ur intake for a year is bull mate. They just wanna no ur not an alcy.....i wouldnt reccomend drinking anything......but i foolishly did and it had no adverse effects....so aslong as in ur head you no your drinking aint a problem the test will go in ur favour. Just be honest. Dont lie and dont leve anything out.....it took four weeks to get my photocard back....best feeling ever....so be honest and come november xmas at latest.....youl have yours to! Hi. I've been told to take photo ID to my medical but I don't have anything apart from my licence which I don't have. Do they not have a copy of ur licence or photo at the medical practice? Thanx

When I lost my licence and had to hand it over I only handed over the paper part and kept the photo card as this was my only piece of uk approved I'd....(I'm 24 and look 16)...had to lie and say I'd lost it previously....any ways I lost this along time before my medical.....the medical centre I went to (in Norwich) didn't ask me for photo I'd. Just the Dvla appointment confirmation form......seriously unless I just went to a dodgy medical centre and the dr was bent (very unlikely) then everything you have read on here has been exagerated. And as long as your honest you will be ok....take a few house hold bills with ur name and address if your that worried

Don't worry about the medical. Stress WILL cause you to fail it......... That's not true actually, nor is your thinking that smoking will cause you to fail!

They are not testing for people who drink, they are testing a blood sample looking for markers that indicate that you are alcohol dependent. It shows how your liver is functioning, and is not a general health screen. If you have been abstaining for weeks I am sure you will have no problem. It would also be no problem if you were still drinking at what is deemed to be 'low risk' levels. (14 - 21 units per week for a woman.... 21 to 28 units per week for a man) I would not spend money on getting an alternative test.

We have regular contact with DVLA and their medical section, and understand that 85% of high risk offenders pass the medical first time.
As to if they check with your own doctor, they will if you bring up something which concerns them during the interview. Also, I see increasing anecdotal reports that own doctors are being asked, for no apparent reason, for their opinion - and this can add weeks to the process of getting your licence back. Hence the need to apply 3 months before the date you are due to get your licence back and not delay the process at all.

2 bottles of wine is between 18 - 21 units, according to the strength, so what the doctor recorded would not be seen as excessive, just at the top end of the 'low risk' scale.

Iam so excited but cant share my happiness with close ones as no1 knew what I had done, it took a week To get it back not including weekend & feels amazing , I want to take this time To thank you all about advice u gave me and i will be One To say I Have learnt my lesson, I know if u stop 3months it helped but saying that we r all different and some can pass with a week abstinence , as i hold my glass of wine right now I dont even see anything exciting, no letter about results on Medical but just licence = 1&1/2 bottles of wine daily since loosing licence but happy To Have it bk and never again.

Anyone with infor , licence says Dr70, Dr30 & cd30 all on the same date, so what code on insurance do i put as im confused.com i am asking so i know that i am properly covered

If you are talking about getting a quote for insurance, you will have to put all 3 codes. They relate (in order) to: Failing to give a sample at the roadside, failing to give an evidential sample at the police station and driving without due care and attention. The police do not prosecute often for failing to give a roadside sample if you fail to provide at the station, at the punishment for that can be quite severe. You perhaps upset them quite a bit?
The insurance companies will load the premium for each of the codes, and perhaps quite a bit for all three from the same event.
