I have just made a payment to start the process of getting my licence back. My ban runs out on the night of the 24 of November. If anyone knows or has gone through this process I have a few questions which I would be grateful if answered.
(i) How long does it take from making the payment to getting the medical done?
(ii) How long does it take from getting the medical and getting your license back?

Another memebr posted some questions asked but i failed to see them I dont know if anyone has a link to that post.

Hi Dhara, once they have processed your application it takes about 10 days for the letter to be sent out asking you to book medical with a DVLA elected GP in your area (they will tell you which one). It can take up to 6 weeks for your application to be processed though but I don't think it usually takes quite that long.

Once your medical had been done, the GP gets the blood results back in a couple of day, they will then write up a report and send it to the DVLA within 14 days. It will then take up 4 weeks for them to reach a decision. However if your bloods came back with abnormalities it can take 3 months as they will contact your own GP to see if there is any history of alcohol abuse or other illnesses which may explain the unusual results. All that info is then given to a specialist for analysis.

I've added the link to the thread with questions asked in medical, also use the search tool to search this forum for medical related threads, lots of useful info to be found.

good luck x

Don't think you have to give up for 4 months I was told 4-5 weeks if you're alcohol dependent I'm gonna do it after 3 weeks t total as I'm hoping I'm not properly alcohol dependent. Yeah its if you're a high risk offender if you blow 3 times or more the limit (like I did), have a previous criminal record or you drive whilst on your ban.

My Ban ends this Thursday. I sent my forms on the 7th of Novemeber. Havent heard anything back yet. My question however was when i get the letter back to book for a medical how long does it take to get the medical. The reason being I hear some people saying they are booked for a medical in 2 weeks. Do I have to wait for weeks to get the medical or I can chose to have it earlier?

Medical today. The doc was so very thorough. measured height and height. reflexes. Checked my eyes. loads of questions. Not sure aboput my answears .Denied everything but asked how many i drink and said 3-6 canns of carlsberg. Now regretting this.
So we wait.
Will keep you posted

managed to get my licence after 3 hard years. Now its the insurance. thanx for the advice guys and girls

A driver's license used to be the ultimate symbol of freedom for teenagers. Studies, however, have begun to show that teens are waiting longer to get started driving. So as teens, they have always been a risk on the road, to some degree. Now, more and more drivers are deciding to opt out of driver's licenses until well after their 18th birthday. With lesser teens on the road, statistics best known before are changing. They are more likely to get involved into crashes for many reasons such as driving while drunk.

Not really. I would like to challenge that ridiculous statement that you have just made.

I am a 20 year old male. So I would fit into your category. However, on my course, there were 17 other people. Only two others were in my age group. So That would mean 3 in 18.

Why have you signed up to this site just to slate off one group of drivers?

I completely agree with BT_Boy. I am 24 and have been banned since 2009, There were 14 people on my group and 2 of them were slightly younger than me 1 was an 18 yr old bloke and the other was a 21 year old girl. The rest were 28+ mainly between 30 and 50. So +1 to that

Hi! I was wondering if any one could help me. I attended a drink driving medical 3 weeks ago.. And have just received a letter saying they are contacting my GP. I don't misuse alcohol and I don't drink very often :/ .. There is obviously a problem with my blood if they have to contact my GP.... Does any one know if and why and what will be asked. I'm really worried & could I still pass???????

PLEASE HELP

My advice is speak to your GP's surgery soon and ask what DVLA want to know, you are entitled to know, unless the answer would affect your health, "normally mental heath related and would put your health at further risk". Then post back here and hopefully someone will answer you. Obviously DVLA are asking something and are happy to pay £40 for the answer!!!

Yes you could still pass, in fact the chances are quite high but until you know why DVLA are contacting your GP, it it impossible for anyone on these forums to answer you accurately.

Ask your doctors secretary to send you a copy of the DVLA letter along with the questionnaire and answers. When you receive it, scan it, then OMIT anything that identifies you and post it on this forum. It may well help a lot of other people in the future. I would scan mine if my scanner worked.

Hi I came off a ban in January 2015 and on September the 29th I finally went for my medical (late in booking)... I had a recent death in the family 2days before the medical so resulted in me having a drink. The dvla appointed doctor thought I looked well and I said no for all of the questions. Question is will the alcohol still show up in blood if so will this affect? Surely anyone is allowed to drink at home and not drive. I wouldn't of even had a drink but the person who died was very close to me and drinking felt like the only way to release the pain. Please inform... Due either my licence or my failure letter any day now

If your timescale is right to apply now, you can go to the post office and ask for a form D1 and submit that.
