One for Stephensons here!

I've been speaking to a couple of specialist driving solicitors I've found on the net and one has told me it possible to go back to court to get my license back early.

I was banned for 24 months on 05/03/2009, reading was 95mg of breath.

They have quoted me an approx fee of £700-£800 and said they can have my case relisted at court and get my license back now 12 months has passed. Is it possible to do this?

Thanks in advance.

No. An application for the early removal of a disqualification can only be made where the total length of ban is for three years or more. A minimum of 2 years must be served before an application can be made. It is not possible to apply for the early return of a driving licence where you have only been banned for 2 years.

The only way of reducing the ban is to complete the drink drive rehabilitation course which will entitle you to a 25% reduction.

One other question; as I'm considered to be a 'high risk' offender I'll have to undergo the medical before I can get my license back.

As part of my ongoing access battle to see my daughter I've had to have hair analysis tests to prove I've not got a problem with abusing alcohol. As these cover a much longer period than blood tests can I submit these to the DVLA and therefore cut the cost of having to pay for another medical?

The medical must be carried out by an approved DVLA medical practitioner. That aside you would have to speak to the DVLA direct about alternative medical tests. The other issue will be how recent this was. I think you may have difficulty in getting away with this and that the DVLA are unlikely to agree to it.
