Enhanced DBS showing DD convictions

Hello,

i was banned from driving in 2003 for drink driving, I received a ban and a fine. I've had no convictions since but it always comes up on enhanced DBS checks .... How long does it stay on record for? I was hoping since it had been so long it would have come off? ( I had an enchanted DBS in 2014 for my current job and my DD conviction reared its ugly head - luckily my boss was understanding !)

Im currently apply for a teaching assistant course but feel it's pointless if the convictions show and I'd never be employed!

Some advice would be greatly appreciated

cheers x

I'm afraid that when it comes to an enhanced check this information will not become spent. Enhanced checks are used in roles where an individual is dealing with vulnerable people (e.g. children) or where security is potentially an issue, (e.g. working as a civil servant). In these situations a persons character is of greater importance because of their responsibilities, although it is in no way required that a person is refused a job if anything at all shows up. If you are looking to apply for teaching assistant positions then you will have to hope that any prospective employer is also understanding regarding this issue.

As a correction to the above advice, because this matter is a single criminal conviction that does not fall within the prescribed list it should become spent after a period of 11 years. It may well have been the case that the most recent check was slightly within the 11 year period that it would remain active. If this continues to appear after this time you should make enquiries with the police, or look to speak to a solicitor who specialises in this area of law to try and have it removed from your record.
